Dragon Portal (And Other Things...)

Dream of the Week: Dragon Portal (And Other Things...)

Quick Setup:
This dream is quite long, so I’m removing some early portions for the sake of brevity.

Lucid, I’m at the top of a building overlooking a large city at night. I decide to fly out over the city, eventually flying into a basketball court with Tim Robinson and several Looney Toons cartoon characters, including Bugs Bunny. I’m curious about the situation, unsure what to make of it. Tim shows them how to fly, and they each begin to lift up and out of the gymnasium. I quickly follow them, flying up to the rafters and easily passing through the roof of the building.

Once outside, we’re all flying up toward the cosmos. They disappear behind me as I soar upward at faster speeds. In the distance, I see big orange stars and, I “let go” of my body. I’m now float-flying upward toward the stars horizontally. Strange pixelated objects begin softly floating near me. I pluck them from the sky and put them in my mouth as if to eat them. Nothing happens as I do this, but I’m incredibly delighted to chomp on them like a video game.

As I continue to rise upward toward the cosmos, I recall my intent and ask the dream to show me my highest self. When the words come out of my mouth, I begin to struggle with speaking toward the end of the phrase. Losing my voice often happens for me, but each time it feels jarring and confusing. Nonetheless, the now empty black sky begins to swirl in barely perceptible ways before an enormous green dragon appears. The dragon flies in tight circles around a bright orange fire orb that seems like a portal.

Before long, I am pulled into the orb, and the scene immediately shifts to a small room that seems like it’s inside a tree. Everything in the room is small and trinket-like, and I’m surprised by the sudden shift in vibe. I sit on a tiny armchair, and a small creature appears before me. I seem to ask it for my “soul purpose,” but the words don’t come out quite right; I’m unable to articulate what I mean. The creature disappears, and I’m feeling a bit nervous about what will happen next. Still lucid, I try to let go of the anxiety by getting up and dancing. Several objects and a small tree in the corner begin to dance with me, and I feel more confident again. With this new feeling, I jump up and “dive” into the ground with the intent of traveling somewhere new. I seem to wake up.

It’s a false awakening.

No longer lucid, I sit up in an unfamiliar bedroom with two men sitting by my side. They’re excited that I’m finally awake and eagerly hand me a stack of papers. Some of the papers are my dream keywords, but most of them are letters from fans. Confused, I ask them about the fan mail, and they tell me that the whole world has been watching my “dream movies.” I don’t quite understand what they mean, and they tell me that already existing television and movie scripts are here for me to read. I’m instantly disappointed; I thought they meant that many movies and television shows were being made from my dreams and people were watching them live.

I wake up.

Note: Sometimes your lucid dreams can behave in the most unexpected ways! Go with the flow and let things happen.

Pool Dance Party

Dream of the Week: Pool Dance Party

I’m swimming in a massive outdoor pool in the middle of a lush, tree-filled public park. Lots of other swimmers are enjoying the beauty of the water amongst the bountiful plant life. Joyfully leaping in and out of the pool, and producing perfectly crisp splashes, I suddenly realize I’m dreaming!

Now lucid, I clearly and eagerly recall my goal of getting everyone in a dream to dance with me. ⚡️

Standing at the edge of the water, I gleefully shake and dance around, with total abandonment of inhibition. I wave my hands, jump about sprightly, and joyfully groove to an imagined beat, hoping the dream figures in the pool will join me. My dancing continues for a short while before they eventually jump in and mimic my motions. When I wave my arms, they follow, all with exuberant smiles, effervescent freedom, and energized spirits. I feel like I’m revitalizing my whole self by getting these figures to move with me

I then notice that all the dream figures here are women, and relish in the feminine spirit. I take off my swimsuit, and they all follow. We’re overflowing with carefree joy, completely secure in ourselves, and our uninhibited bliss. It’s incredible! I dive into the pool and feel the water’s cool sensation as I soar swiftly beneath the surface.

I wake up.

Note: The energy of dancing in this dream made such a positive impact on my mood the following day. Give it a try!

Dream of the Week: The Universe Inside

More from the archives this week!

June 20, 2020
Dream #2127
The Universe Inside

I’ve entered the dream directly from being awake, lucid at the start. I had been thinking intently about Out of Body Experiences before dream initiation. I’m lying in bed, drifting between wakefulness and sleep. I sense myself drifting away from my physical body, and feel an unusual tingling sensation through my dream body. It feels warm and effervescent as if my whole being is sparkling.

There are no visualizations, just darkness. Ever so slowly, I feel the sensation of rising upward, in a horizontal position, as if laying down facing up. My eyes begin to adjust, and I’m amazed to understand that I’m actually inside a “universe” within of my body. It’s filled with endless bright stars, purple galaxies, and all the characteristics of the cosmos as we know it. I seem to be a tiny visitor inside here.

My “being” begins to pulse and radiate as I get closer to a starry-silhouetted version of my spine. I’m now facing forward, floating in this universe inside my body. The tingling sensation increases, washing over my being with more intensity and frequency. I’m overwhelmed by joy, awe, and curiosity. I can’t believe that this is here within me.

I wake up.

Note: Out of body experience dreams often feel other-worldy or cosmic, but fleeting. Breathe deeply and maintain focus to hold on to them longer.

Meeting the Dream Maker

Dream of the Week: Meeting the Dream Maker

I'm walking along a city street at night with no one else around. It's eerie how quiet it is, but I keep moving with my head down. I stop at a corner and it's raining. It's *only* raining right here on this small sliver of the sidewalk. How unusual it is for the rain to be so narrowly focused? I ask myself, "Is this a dream?" Whoa, it is! ⚡️

Now lucid, I check my reality by attempting to put my hand through the abandoned store window next to me. The glass breaks and I can feel the cold, solid pieces of glass around my hand, but there's no pain. Now certain that I'm dreaming, I walk through the store wall, but I break it and everything inside. Whoops. I go back outside and a car is parked directly outside. The windows are up, but I can see someone sitting in the back seat. I think to stick my head through the window to talk to the person, but with my current track record, I go with my hand instead. I push my hand toward the glass and THUD... I hit my hand against the surface. It doesn't break and it doesn't pass through. What the heck?

The window rolls down and a woman in her twenties is there. Her gaze remains forward and she looks very annoyed. A friendlier man in the front seat (who I understand to be her brother) turns to the back and happily waves to me forward implying that I should go to the front passenger window to talk to him. I go to his window and he hands me a hand-written note that says, "Go visit the park, you're already there." I try a re-reading test and am surprised that the words on the note stay the same. I'm very excited to follow his direction. I wave goodbye and walk ahead repeating, "Go visit the park, you're already there" to myself over and over so that I remember it when I wake up.

Within moments, I reach the park and realize why he wanted me to come here. It's absolutely beautiful! It's night time, but somehow everything has a shining glow. The park is bursting with perfectly trimmed hedges, colorful flower bushes, magical trees with unusual green leaves and twinkling lights, and teeny blue butterflies hovering among strange orange fruits resembling the kumquat. I can't get over how unbelievably whimsical this place is and I break into song, randomly signing things that I see.

I fly up above the corner of the park, getting a birds-eye view, considering what to explore first. Surprisingly, I can't seem to fly forward. I make a few attempts to move ahead, unintentionally pushing myself upside down! I roll with it, hovering down beneath a tree examining the teeny butterflies in great detail. In the distance, I see a small apple tree within another tree and am utterly delighted!

Forgetting that I'm upside down, I fly toward it but fall to the ground. When I get back up, it's now daytime and I'm on a cement bridge in the center of the park looking down over a grassy knoll below. Still fully lucid, I decide it's time to talk to the dream itself. With that in mind, I shout up to the sky, "I wish to speak with the Dream Maker!" Nothing happens. I repeat this three more times, and each time, nothing happens.

I'm left disappointed and confused. Suddenly, an enormous figure enters the scene, as tall as the sky itself. He resembles a young version of Genghis Khan and looks down on my tiny self with a look of mild frustration as if he has been disrupted. (I'm probably the size of his hand). I look up at him in awe and he stands still for a moment of judgment.

He shrinks down to normal human size, with the same stern look on his face. I'm in such a shock, that I don't know what to say. I wish I had been more prepared with a question! So, I go in for a hug. He backs away and without words, communicates that an embrace is not an appropriate right now. He seems to communicate that I must not rush it and the dream becomes wildly unstable before it fades completely to black.

But, I don't wake up. I come back to the scene again and he is still looking over me. He continues to communicate that he is in control here and that I need to be slow. I dip in and out a few more times before waking up completely, surprised and unsure of what to make of it all. 😱

ProTip: Go into each night with an intention or question that you’d like to request of your dream. Have a few at the ready!

Dream of the Past: Terry Crews, Dream Guide

Pulling another one from the archives this week, because it’s just so memorable! This dream is one of my all-time favorites.

Dream #0081
Terry Crews, Dream Guide
July 2018

I am jumping off the fire escape and running down a city block, unsure of what I am running from. I come across a fenced-in alley area and meet up with Terry Crews. I have a mild sense of lucidity at this point but I don't question why he's there with me.

We then run together to some unknown place and I feel like we're simply running away from the darkness of the night. We turn a corner and run down a hill where a group of slime monsters are in our way. We stop dead in our tracks and I am afraid. These alien monsters are oozing with scary bug features that are constantly moving and morphing into frightening shapes. These creatures solidify my lucidity - this has to be a dream! ⚡️

I turn to Terry who nods with a smile. I turn back around to the creatures knowing that I must give them love. I shout that I love them and that they were wonderful creatures. I shout that I am not afraid. Suddenly the creatures turn into a group of small horses and run off up a hill and out of sight. I am thrilled!

I turn back to Terry and ask him "Who are you? What do you represent?" He doesn't say anything, looking at me blankly. I ask him again, "What do you represent?" He kind of glazes over and says, "I am the one that brought you here." I'm shocked and delighted by his response and wake up.

ProTip: Hug your nightmare figures! They can transform into something magical in your dream and heal something hidden in your life.

Cosmic Light Painting

Dream of the Past: Cosmic Light Painting

Quick Setup: In September, I broke my first rule: prioritize great sleep! Which means my dreaming adventures were all over the place and broken. I could barely remember tiny details, and I only inched out a few lucid experiences. I was tired. And not my best self. So here we are, at the end of a blitzy month, culminating in a lackluster dreaming week. I did not have any lucid dreams this week. Or interesting regular dreams for that matter. My gut reaction yesterday was pretty self-deprecating, "It's over! I've lost it!"

What a ridiculous sentiment. I had to remember my own wisdom. Lucid dreaming is a skill, and sometimes there will be downtimes. So, don't give up if you're still trying. I have to remember that, too.

Anyway, for this week, let's go into the archives.

June 19, 2018
Dream #0032
Cosmic Light Painting

I'm in an overly ornate bathroom where every surface is made of dark green marble, including the stalls, toilets, and roof. Several menacing strangers file into the room and circle around me, judging me as though I'm in a courtroom. My anxiety surges, and I feel tears welling up. I cry out for help, but they continue their angry taunts. I thrust my arms to the side and run to the sink, pressing my hands against the cold marble — none of this makes sense. I'm in a dream! ⚡️

Now lucid, the room disappears, revealing a dark and empty place. I walk up to a wall and "swipe" across it with my palm pressed firmly against the white wall. My hand serves as a paintbrush and leaves a streak of glowing green light. I'm crazy blown away! I paint another stripe with my palm, this time blue light comes out — and a third time, pink light.

Having endless "light paint" in the palm of my hands, I wonder if I can go bigger and paint the entire room with "universe paint." I begin smearing my hands all over the walls, energetically trying to hit every nook. From out of my hands comes actual "universe paint" with stars and nebula and galaxies, all magically appearing on the walls. I step back to see the whole room covered. It has movement as if I'm really somewhere looking into the cosmos. With utter amazement and joy, I wake up.

ProTip: Seriously, don’t give up! There’s moments like this week’s dream of the past to be had.

Into the Star Dome

Dream of the Week: Into the Star Dome

I'm in a house that I understand to be my childhood home, though it looks nothing like it. My dad is there, but it's not my actual dad. He's just knocked on the door of my bedroom as I've gotten into bed to quietly prep for dreaming. Frustrated that he's keeping me awake, I walk to the door in a huff. He tells me that a girl and her dog are here to see me. I meet her downstairs, even more, annoyed because I don't know this girl and I don't know her dog. She talks to me about something related to waking up, and I brush her off, telling her that I need to go to sleep.

I'm back in my bed, settling down and begin my dream prep again. I'm then interrupted, this time the phone rings, and it's a colleague. I don't want to talk to her right now because I'm trying to dream, but she also tries to tell me something about waking up. I again become frustrated (not getting the undeniable hint). We talk for a little while longer about dreams and waking up until it occurs to me that I am in fact in a dream!⚡️

Now lucid, the bedroom disappears, and I'm left inside an expansive architectural structure with golden buttresses and empty space as if floating in nothing. I fly up to a buttress and hang on, knowing that if I let go, I will fall - and so I do. I feel the genuine sensation of falling at high speeds and land back to the floor, made of soft black material similar to sound-proof foam.

I'm now looking at what appears to be the back of a large set piece of an apartment building. The back of the set is facing me, and the front looks out into the void. I can see out the windows, and there's a glow of a neon sign. I want to know what the sign says, so I fly to the top, land on the edge looking out into the void.

Beyond the wall, playthings are floating about, including a long yellow playground slide and a circus bear tumbling over a beach ball. It's ridiculous! I fly out into the void and turn back to read the sign. The words are unstable, and I'm unable to comprehend them. I can only recall "CE CE."

All of a sudden, everything drops away, and I'm floating upward in the black void. I can feel the sensation of flying up, but I can't see anything, and I'm not doing anything to control it. I see slight faints of light swirling that almost resemble stars. I have a great sense of joy and awe.

Suddenly, I've come to a stop inside a room-sized, yet very dark dome. The setting begins to appear around me as I float in the air. I become surrounded by walls made of the same jagged sound-proof foam. A watery layer forms directly above me that is covering the upper part of the dome. I reach my hands up through the watery layer and realize that I'm touching the stars. The sensation is so magical and surprises me so much that I wake up.

Note: I’ve had several experiences that take place in a black void and they always have a very joyful quality. Do you have experiences in this “place?”

Wild Nature

Dream of the Week: Wild Nature

It’s morning and I’m just waking up in bed in a white bedroom that seems like a hybrid between my current bedroom and my childhood bedroom. Morning sunlight is pouring into the room feeling happy and bright. There is something special about the vibe and I wonder if it could be a dream. I look for something with words so I can do a re-reading state check. If the words appear to change after reading and re-reading, I know I’m in. I see my Apple Watch on the window sill (ignoring, of course, that it doesn’t belong there) and inspect the face. Everything seems normal except a tiny green widget in the bottom left corner that displays the time. It first reads 8:20 and then subtly shifts through a few other times. Ah, it is a dream! ⚡️

Now lucid, I am still standing in front of the window. I open the white curtain and am overjoyed to see a beautiful clear day with an incredible view of a snowy mountain peak outside my window. The immediate surroundings have the distinct feeling of my childhood home and property, as if it were dropped in a mountainous region. I think about how amazing it would be to have this view every day. Below, the ground is covered in white fluffy snow. Just outside the window to the left is a wide rocky stream flowing down with bright blue-green water. It reminds me of Tahoe.

I open the window itself and think of flying to the peak and climb out the window prepared to fly. I seem to hover horizontally for a moment just out of the window unsure of where I will go. I launch forward but don’t get much height so I turn slightly and grab hold of the rocks from the mountain stream hanging there for a moment before climbing up.

I can see water rushing water down the river rocks from above and cascading below. I’m in awe at the beautiful clear, blue-green water against the rocks and the fluffy white snow. For a moment I consider jumping into the water and flowing down with it where it disappears into the ground. As I consider this, the water stops flowing leaving just smooth rocks below as if to invite me in. I turn and look back up to see what’s happening behind me where the water came from and the water starts flowing again. I look back down and the rocks now form a bit of a veranda overlooking the view of the mountain and the valley below. Any impression of my old house and a neighborhood is now gone, it’s pure wilderness.

I consider going to the edge of the rocky veranda to mediate, but my curiosity pulls me to keep exploring a little longer. I decide to climb further up the rocky stream. I see more snowy mountain peaks still clear and beautiful ahead. A few steps in, I come across an old, rickety ladder along the path up. I consider its texture and continue to be in awe. Just at the top of the ladder is a small white mountain goat or ram and another wild creature next to it. I look over to my left and notice a large flock of crows flying in and settling down on the rocks, gathering near me. Just beyond that, I see a few gray speckled porpoises swimming up in the rocky waters, now calm and peaceful. I’m overwhelmed. I think about talking to the animals and consider asking questions of the dream overall, but I am so struck by their presence that I just stand at the bottom of the ladder taking it all in with wonder. I don’t want to ruin this moment! And then I wake up.

ProTip: Rehearse your dreams for a better chance of going back in. This is one I’d love to go back to. What are your dream re-entry experiences?
